The arrival of five orcas (four adults and a calf) at Ohiwa Harbour in September created quite a lot of excitement as Ohope residents and campers flocked to the Harbour side to see them. The pod had been sighted as early as 7am near the island then headed back out to sea.

They can quite often be seen at this time of year right through to January in the harbour. They will chase and feed on the stingrays.
