Upcoming Event: Toi's Challenge

A multi terrain 18 km run, relay and fun walk starting at Rex Morpeth Park through stunning bush, beach and cliff top circuit following the historic steps of Toi on Sunday, 18 November 2018 in Whakatane.

The Toi’s Challenge 18km Run/Relay with Radio 1XX 18km walk/relay and Robinson Law 6km fun run/walk all take place on 18th November 2018 from the Athletic Track, Rex Morpeth Park Whakatane.

The Toi's Challenge course is an 18km roughly circular route starting and finishing at the Whakatane Harrier Clubrooms in Rex Morpeth Park in the centre of town. The route rises above the town overlooking the Whakatane Harbour and river mouth.  It hugs the cliff edge around Kohi Point. From the bushy clifftop path with its magnificent coastal views, the athletes descend to deserted Otarawairere beach and then they climb over a steep spur to Ohope beach entering the undulating forest paths of the Ohope beach reserve. The beach sections offer a welcome change of terrain and pace after the headland tracks onto Ohope beach. Leaving the beach the course takes athletes through beautiful undulating bush tracks (the Nga Tapuwae o Toi track) before returning to Rex Morpeth Park, where competitors  pick up a punnet of juicy Julians' Berry Farm and Cafe strawberries as they go over the finish line.
