OhopeO’ means ‘a place of’ and ‘hope’ is 'the body of an army' in the Maori language. This lovely little town in the Bay of Plenty with its magnificent beach can be reached by a 9 kilometre hilly road. The town extends along the ocean up to Ohiwa Harbour (pictured right).
Ohope is only a small town, but there are some great places for eating out. Toi Toi Restaurant on Pohutukawa Ave is nice and close-by as is The Sea Thai just along the road, or if you prefer shopping or going to a movie, Whakatane is just 15 minutes’ drive away. Ohope Beach offers a fantastic 11 kilometres of uninterrupted sandy beach and plenty of sunshine. The beach is great for swimming, surfing and other water sports and one of the safest beaches in the country. Ohope has also been voted NZ's Best Beach in 2013. Our One Bedroom Apartments and Two Bedroom Apartments enjoy spectacular views of Ohope Beach and many of our Ohope Beach campsites are also located on the beachfront. During the summer the beach is patrolled by professional life guards, making Ohope Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park the ideal location for a family holiday.
Ohope is situated in a unique peninsula-like location, with a stunning white beach on one side and Ohiwa harbour on the other. In the summer, the red flowers of the Pohutukawa trees are absolutely stunning. Ohope enjoys the warmest climate and highest sunshine hours in the country.
When you want a break from the water sports, there are many other activities in Ohope and the surrounding region. There are some beautiful reserves offering bush walks and if you love golf, you will love the Ohope International Golf Club (pictured right), which is a professional 18-hole par 71 course.
